D2-152 - "The Bean Men of Mumbo" (10/5/92 to 7/3/93)

After this number, the dailies were discontinued.

Writer: Thomas Warkentin
Art: Buenos Aires Studio

Summary: Receiving an urgent plea from an old friend, Flash travels to the distant planet of Mumbo in the company of Charlie the stuntman (see D2-151 Return to Fear) to reacquaint himself with the indigenous forest people.

Learning that an inter-galactic drug cartel has taken over the planet for their own purposes, Flash joins Gina, the resourceful leader of the underground rebel movement, in a fight against the mighty organisation and its elusive leader...

  2. A superlative effort Emile, Allen Lane and you have put in compiling these rare treasures over the years. I can't thank you often and enough for restoring a very fond piece of my childhood. Hats off, sir.

  7. @Reno As far I know, many strips (S27-S195) are not scanned. In Sunday strips, the situation is worse than the dailies.

    S1 to S26 were shared earlier: http://bookscomics.blogspot.com/2008/07/046flash-gordon.html

Soon I'll share S1 to S22 better scans than earlier posted.

At present S27 to S195 are not available with Emile or me. But we are trying.

S196 to S243 are coming soon. The resolutions are not good as the dailies. However, those are good enough for enjoying.

  8. 1990 - Dan Barry quit KFS after working for 4 decades with them. Apparantly he was asked for a cut in his pay.

1992 - After struggling for two years, the legendary strip ended its daily form.

1994 - Sy Barry declared his retirement from Phantom strips citing fatigue and inability to cope with deadlines.

I wonder whether there was any connection between the exit of two brothers in succession from the same organisation. Those were the sad days for comic strips when such legendary artists called it quit.

  9. @TPH, at least Phantom is still going, with Paul Ryan doing a great job.

Ralph Reese, in my opinion, wasn't a good fit for Flash Gordon. The Gray Morrow fill-ins really stood out.

And thanks in advance for the Sundays that you will be posting, Prabhat!

  10. @The Phantom Head (TPH) Under both brothers, the Phantom & Flash Gordon stories reached unmatchable heights.
If Indrajal had all the Phantom & Flash Gordon (the Dailies & Sundays complete versions) strips, probably it could be more popular.
