Three NiceTarzan Comics

Think, many of you missed these.

According to Emile, probably it's reprinted version of Gold Key. I have to read many issues of that period, have all scans. However  can say confidently, new colours are too good.

These are from Emile's e-collection. All credits go to him & original scanning person.

  1. I have all the novels by Edgar Rice Burroughs. Tarzan used to be craze during my childhood. The image of Johnny Weismuller is still engraved in my mind. Not to talk about Maureen O'Connolly!!

  2. @Venkitachalam Subramanian: Glad to know! I liked Tarzan Comics but never collected & read books in childhood. Last year found all e-books, but unable to find time for reading. Let see.

  3. These are dark horse re-issues of Gold Key Russ Manning issues of ERB novel adaptations. There are 4 issues in this series released by Dark Horse so far. I bought three of them from Amazon including the issues you have posted above. These scans have been available on the net for a long time. I have the scans of Tarzan the Untamed (the 4th issue in this series) if you want them.

  4. Venkit, I know what you mean when you mention Maureen O'Sullivan :o)

By the way, it was a double named Josephine McKim who did that scene, not Maureen. Sorry to dash your dreams ;o)

  10. Hi Prabhat,

Out of the 4 Dark Horse issues, you have posted TWO in this post. The other one, "Tarzan the Untamed" you already have the scans.

The only one missing is "Tarzan the ape man". This issue got sold out immediately after it was released and is very rare. But since everyone already have the original Gold Key issues, of all these, it is not a big deal.

Check out in your scan collection(every visitor in this blog should already have these):
The Russ Manning series started from the Gold Key issue numbered 154 (Descent from the past). The next issue adapts the ERB original novel Tarzan the ape man. The following GK issues were all comic adaptations of ERB's novels. So if you had the pleasure of reading the novels (as I have), compare them to the graphic adaptations and double your pleasure.

The Dark Horse issues are very nice though. Good paper and nice printing.

  15. These were actually graphic novels done by Russ Manning exclusively for the European market back in the early seventies. I believe the Dark Horse volumes were the first US publications.

  16. Russ Manning also wrote and illustrated 4 Tarzan comics for the European market.
1.Tarzan in the Land that Time Forgot
    2.The Pool of Time
    3.Tarzan and the Beastmaster
    4.Tarzan in Savage Pellucidar

Two of these stories have been collated by Dark Horse and published as "Tarzan in the Land that Time Forgot" with "The Pool of Time." This is the first comics of this post.
Other stories, such as "Tarzan and the Beastmaster" and "Tarzan in Savage Pellucidar," so far have seen publication only in Europe where they appeared in a unique 46-page album format. These are very rare. So if anyone has got them please share it with everybody.
