The Phantom (1943) Directed by B. Reeves Eason
Based on the King Feature comic strip hero "Phantom," an exciting serial adventure produced by Columbia Pictures (USA) & released on 24 December 1943. The serial also features Jeanne Bates as the Phantom's girlfriend Diana Palmer, and Ace the Wonder Dog as the Phantom's trusty German shepherd Devil.
Plot:
Two expeditions are trying to reach the Lost City of Zoloz--one headed by Prof. Davidson, a scientist who wants to establish an archaeological site, and the other by a greedy treasure hunter who wants to keep the fabled treasures of the city for himself. An agent of a foreign power also wants to establish a secret airbase there, so he stirs up the natives against The Phantom, who has been able to get them to stay peaceful so far. When The Phantom is murdered, his son takes his place and sets out to restore peace to the jungle and stop the agents' and the treasure hunters' nefarious plans.

Prabhat, I have seen this serial on DVD. The only problem is because it was a serial, there is a lot of repetition of the previous part in each episode. If someone can edit out the titles and "story so far" this would be a very good movie. There is also a Phantom movie (shot in the Asia-Pacific) in color.

Wow.This is a scoope of the decade, an old Phantom serial. We all have watched Billy Zane's Phantom movie and are more hungry to see Phantom in flesh on the screen. Its taking ages to download but I have the patience. Looks like its password protected to keep pirates from mongo planet at bay. Can I have it plz Prabhat?

ReplyDeleteBut mind my word Prabhat, Most Link Protectors are Viral with Malwares. Even KL doesn't allow them for their such hidden acts. I think it's better to avoid them in future. Even Hari's FCB visitors faced lots of problems in the past for using them, and finally they stopped using Link Protectors.
I think some of us were able to download the Frew comics before "PM" copied them over to his blog.
ReplyDeleteThe link protector seems to have a mind of its own. It does not now allow us to d/l the comics. I am not able to download the serials. I think something needs to be tweaked.
BTW, the "PM" guy has banned all comments from his site. He has cleaned up all the vulgar comments from his blog. The only thing remaining are his own vulgar posts - the blatant copying of the links.
As though he wants to help you guys to have increased traffic, he is asking everyone who wants to contact him to leave messages at the 12 blogs he had listed in his first post.
I am not sure what kind of unwanted work that is going to bring to you guys!! You just gotta love this "PM" guy!!

ReplyDeleteI keep hoping that someday someone will do a big screen reboot of Phantom. That Billy Zane one was so bad; it sucked really bad! The only thing good about that one was their choice of Diana! ;) But well, they are making a Mandrake movie, hopefully they won't screw that up!
Saw the movie- some how felt that it does not so proper justice to the comic character. Just my feeling.
ReplyDeleteLink-Protector is good only for preventing AUTOMATED compilation of links by crawlers etc. It will not stop a determined crook who will click, copy and paste. I agree that the link to the pm blog should be removed.
ReplyDeleteThis serial would have been wonderful if they cut out the repetition. There would be a four minute repetition from previous episode (approx), six minutes of real story and titles! It drove me crazy. I was spending roughly the same time on the forwarding and watching! I hope someone with the right software can just edit out the repetition/titles and make one big file. The whole movie should last under 90 minutes then, most likely.
I liked the Billy Zane movie better - the story was from a forties comic strip and the photography was quite good. I don't understand why there are no Phantom movies coming out when they are making movies of every comic hero.

Wow! Great post Prabhat. Had heard a lot abt this serial, and looking fwd to download and watch it. The Billy Zane movie sucked majorly, with the Phantom unmasked most of the time (of course, not commercially smart in keeping the lead masked all the time :P) I hope this serial will be more honest with the story-line.

Solution is we have to download all the three parts for each episode.
All the three files are linked. On opening the second and third file, it will ask, replace file, say yes.
Finally you will get to see the episode.

Dear Prabhat, If you are having a Linux OS, you can easily Convert your Scanned jpg images into a Handy PDF File with the following Command:

convert *.jpg -adjoin comics.pdf
PDF Files are easier to Read then jpg images.
